Remember to breathe, even if it’s all you can do

We breathe all day, every day.

During moments of frustration or sadness, though, I’ve caught myself holding my breath.

Here’s a friendly reminder, to you and to me: Breathe. When we’re in the midst of preparing for the holidays and something seems overwhelming, take a deep breath – breathe in for five seconds and breathe out for five seconds.

Breathe in, breathe out. Sometimes, it’s all you can do. It’s enough. It might not always feel like it, but you are enough.

A former yoga instructor of mine always said that shallow breathing leads to a shallow life. Deep breathing, she said, leads to a richer, more fulfilling life.

Take a deep breath for you, and maybe even for the cranky cashier at the grocery store. She’s going through something. Send her a smile, or wish her a good day.
